Todd Fink is a hat designer working out of his home studio in Twentynine Palms, California, at the edge of Joshua Tree National Park. He shapes and blocks every Recapitate hat himself the old-fashioned way, using steam and antique wooden blocks. Unable to find a hat that he could identify with, Todd started collecting the tools needed to build the hat he needed. Ten years later (2017) he launched Recapitate in Omaha, Nebraska.
Todd's story isn't just about hats. He skated for H-Street and Z as a teenager. A knee surgery meant to prep him for going pro ended that chapter instead.
His art, music, and hats have appeared in print magazines, TV, films, and video games. His creative work has taken him across the U.S. and Europe many times, as well as Japan, Thailand, Mexico, Australia, and Russia.
His odd paper collage aesthetic has shaped the band's visual identity the whole way. Collages, skate tricks, songs, or hats: to Todd it's the same sensibility working in different materials. And exercising that is what he feels he's here to do.
Todd also shoots pool competitively. Maybe he'll play you for a custom hat when you visit the studio.
